International Street Team

Program Dates

Jan. 1st 2009 - ongoing

The Daylight Magazine Street Team is looking for those interested in harnessing and cultivating a synergy among international image-makers and image-consumers in an effort to empower the public to use images; not simply be subjected to them.

For years, Daylight Magazine has been dedicated to promoting the use of photography as a tool for affecting positive social change. The Daylight Magazine Street Team, a collaborative open-source media initiative, is serving to further this cause. By means of public displays of socially conscious photography and projects aimed at reaching out to the public, our Street Team seeks to raise awareness and promote the use of the positive imagery to cultivate mutual ideas of cross-cultural understanding.

In America alone, approximately $620 billion is spent every year on product marketing. It is estimated that the average person will encounter nearly 3,000 advertisements each day. These advertisements encroach upon public space; they are plastered to buildings, transportation vehicles, schools, they are written in the sky, shown on television and printed on trash found floating the sea. Advertising is everywhere. It is the belief of Daylight and its Street Team members, that this abuse of image usage is deteriorating the power of imagery at large. Our efforts seek to return power to images and image-makers through unique and collaborative projects using photography to tell stories, foster awareness and attempt to better the world!
