2008 VISA POUR L'IMAGE AWARD AND GRANT WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Every year, the festival Visa pour l'image awards six prizes. The 2008 Visa d'Or prizes are awarded for the best reports published between September 2007 and August 2008. Picture editors from international magazines chose the best young reporter for the City of Perpignan award which was presented for the third time. For the eighth year running, Canon France and the Association des Femmes Journalistes (AFJ) presented the Canon Female Photojournalist Award. Entrants were judged on both previous work as well as plans for a future project. For the 13th CARE International Award (Grand Prix) for Humanitarian Reporting, the Association will present the best entries competing for the award which stand as expressions of hope.

Visa d'Or Feature Award: Brent Stirton for his work Virunga National Park, E. Democratic Republic of Congo.
Visa d'Or Daily Press: Dallas Morning News for Monda Reeder's "The Bottom Line."
City of Perpignan Young Reporter Award: Munem Wasif (featured in Daylight #7) for his report on Bangladesh.
Canon Female Photojournalist Award: Brenda Ann Kenneally
CARE International Award (Grand Prix) for Humanitarian Reporting: Stephanie Sinclair for her reporting on Indonesian Female Circumcision Celebration.
