Peter Puklus

 

The work of Peter Puklus gives a silent and thoroughly contemporary comment on one of the questions photography brought into discussion of visual media since its invention. Puklus' thinking and acting involves photography and video art's relation to the 'classic' arts like painting. With the miniaturisation of electronic devices the integration of digital cameras into mobile phones was archieved in 1995. Since then taking pictures became omnipresent in more situations than ever before. When using the camera phone consciously Peter Puklus has references to Dutch paintings on his mind.

"Rites of Passage" by Przemyslaw Pokrycki 

For three years, Warsaw-based photographer Przemyslaw Pokrycki has been traversing his country, stopping at one family gathering after another. By now he has photographed about 80 festivities: baptisms, first communions, weddings and funerals. Some take place in old-fashioned, simple community halls where they wash down their cream tarts with Pepsi-Cola served in paper cups; other are held in ostentatious halls with stucco ceilings and covered upholstery. This is a journey to the heart of Poland.

Arja Hyytiäinen – NOTES (exhibition in ZPAF i S-ka Gallery, Cracow from October 17th to December 6th 2008) 

Arja's photographs tell emotional stories combining her life with her art. In one example intimate human relations lead us to the floor boards of Swedish country houses and in rough casted private rooms in eastern European apartments, where the emotional world of the protagonist is created by a mattress on the floor and a sheet soaked through with the smell of the previous night.
